So in this article, I am going to discuss how you can be a good mother to your toddler. Toddlerhood is a long stage that usually begins when your child is 14 months old and ends when he/she starts going to school. It is a very challenging stage in which a child needs his/her mother the most. Only a mother can understand the tantrums of her toddler and knows how to calm them. Being a new mom is hard but you can be a good mom. Newborn baby care after birth is so important. To be a good mother is not an easy task. It is full of responsibilities and you as a good mother must follow these responsibilities honestly. It is important for your child’s development. You should keep an eye on his/her all daily activities. A toddler demands extra care. You should take care of his/her every need. Your child’s toddler years is a time of great joy and occasional frustration. It is important to build a strong relationship during that initial stage. Building a strong relationship with your child at this important stage provide you both a firm foundation for the next coming years. It helps you both in the next step of his or her development. The relationship which is built in an early stage last forever. The bond you make with your child during these days will be forever. You as a mother is a window to your’s child world. HOW TO DEVELOP A STRONG RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR TODDLER?

Here are some points that will help you to build a strong relationship with your toddler so that you can be a good mom:

  1. Show some love :

    Love them unconditionally. Love them with no limits. The only thing children need is the affection. They are attracted towards love. Give your toddler kisses when they wake up. Always smile towards them. They understand the language of love. But do not spoil them. Children are not spoiled by an overabundance of affection. In fact, they are spoiled when you substitute things for affection. So love them but do not spoil them.

  2. Give your time :

    To make your child feel special, spend time with him/her. Try to connect with them. Toddlers need your time as a mom. They need time when they can just be snuggling on your lap. They want to cuddle and kiss. They want to be with you. They want to enjoy a long hug. So take out some time to play with your child. Take him/her to park. Enjoy your child’s company. The more time you give to your child, the more you understand them.

  3. Accept your child as an individual:

    Your toddler is on that stage from where he or she is starting to develop his or her own personality. Some of the things are learned while others are genetic. Try to understand your child.     Each day take out some time to play with your toddler. The concept of play is very important for your child’s physical, mental and social development. It is not a waste of time. Play helps your child to develop creativity, confidence, focus, good physical coordination and prepare them for adulthood. They can communicate their feelings through play and also you can understand their feelings and thoughts. You can learn how your toddler reacts to success, failure, and obstacles. It’s your responsibility to create a safe environment for your toddler to play. The safe and caring environment helps your toddler to develop their potential to the fullest. You should play with them and you should allow them to play with other children as well of their age groups. This will help to develop social skills in them which would help them when they grow up. Playing with your child will become an enriching experience for you.

  5. Build a positive environment for your toddler:

    Create a positive home for your toddler. Spread positivity. Protect him/her from negativity. Create an environment in which your toddler feel free, safe, loved, heard and respected. Creating the positive environment for your toddler will affect them their entire lives. If you want to raise happy kids, make your kids stay away from negativity. It will also help to build a strong personality. Grow them in a warm and loving environment that will affect them positively their entire lives. A positive environment will help your toddler to learn more.

  6. Communicate well :

    Take out time to talk to your toddler. Give a response to his/her gestures, movements and sounds. Never ignore them. Understand them through their tone of voice. Toddlers start communicating from birth through sounds, facial expressions, body movements, gestures etc. They continue to build communication skills when you as a good mom respond to their efforts, Try to communicate with them in baby language. Make eye contact and talk with them. If your toddler is pointing towards you, then pick him up, hug him, kiss him.T his shows that you are understanding his/her efforts.

  7. You are a role model for your toddler, remember that:

    Always remember that toddler repeat your actions. So, don’t do anything in front of your toddler which you don’t want that your toddler should repeat. Ensure that you are teaching good habits to them. What you teach them at this stage will remain with them forever. They are small but they are paying attention to all the things you say and do. So, you have a big responsibility to be a good role model for your toddler.

  8. Establish Discipline :

    Discipline should be learned at an early stage. You are the mother, make some order and routine for your child. Every day, try to keep the same schedule. It teaches them to be more behaved and calm. Make a time schedule for naptime, mealtime, bedtime, and playtime and it should be followed.

  9. Think like a toddler :

    To be a good mom, you should think like them. Try to understand the problems from their point of view. Try to understand what problems they are facing. For example: If you are asking them to do something, and they are not doing it. That doesn’t mean always that they are misbehaving or they don’t want to do. It may be the case that they are not getting what you are saying or they don’t know how to do it. So, understand this and try to solve it by thinking in their way. Sometimes, kids may need more explicit directions.

  10. Be a friend to your toddler:

    It’s the time in your child’s life when he/she wants to be with you the most. He/She wants a good time from you. Try to be a friend to your child. In this way, you as a mother can build a strong relationship with him/her which will last forever.

  11. Reading :

    Reading time proves to be a great way to interact with your child. Read different stories to them. Read stories in a funny and effective way. Read them in a way that your child will enjoy. Make them laugh. When you are reading, adapt special voices for characters. It will be more entertaining for your toddler. He/She will enjoy it. Re-read his/her favorite book. Take his/her name in the story more often. For your girl child, read fairytales and treat her like a fairy. For your boy child, read superheroes and action stories and treat him like a superhero.

  12. Give your kids a quiet time every day:

    Let them enjoy their own company also. Let them learn to be by themselves with their colors, blocks, drawing books, crayons, toys.

  13. Manage the tantrums of your toddler :

    A toddler throws many tantrums which should be handled by you with love and affection. As a mother, you should deal with their tantrums with extra care and positivity. Try to make them understand the difference between right and wrong.

  14. Be a kid with them :

    A toddler likes a company like them. So they will enjoy when you act like a kid with them. Sing silly songs in front of them and do stupid funny acts, they will like it and they start loving your company.

  15. Sing lullaby:

    Kids love lullaby. Sing lullaby at night or in the afternoon to make them fall asleep. In this way, they will have a sound sleep and they will get up fresh. It also improves their mental health and you will have a happy baby.

  16. Take care of their meals:

    Make a diet plan for your toddlers and follow it. Give your toddler a healthy diet which helps to make them physically and mentally fit. A proper diet full of vitamins, proteins, minerals etc should be given to them. You as a mother should take care of that they are getting the essential nutrients which are essential for the growth of a child. Neither overeating nor less eating should be there. Offer them only healthy food. Keep them away from junk foods. Take care of what they are putting in their mouth as kids usually have a habit of putting everything in their mouth.

  17. Keep them clean :

    Keep your toddler clean. Keep their surroundings clean. Keep everything that they use clean. It will help to protect them from diseases. This is your responsibility as a good mother to keep your toddler neat and clean.

So, what a toddler learns from his/her mother will have a lasting effect on his/her mind. A toddler catches his mother’s actions very fast. So be careful while doing anything in front of your child.

When a child enters into an age group of a toddler, he becomes extremely enthusiastic and exploitive. His mind becomes able to perceive every bit of nature’s aspect and this further helps him to learn. The most primary part of learning for a child takes place at home. The healthy and happy environment will eventually help him to grow better and an unhealthy environment where he will be kept in an atmosphere full of arrogance and abuses, he will eventually end up with all the negative things in life. A mother is a first teacher of a child should always take care of these little things in life. Apart from education, basic moral values are extremely important for a child that helps him to grow in a proper manner and to develop a strong personality. Give your toddler a positive environment.
